Ellen DeGeneres Show Offers Staff Perks Post ‘Toxic Workplace’ Claim

Several new staff perks have been announced at The Ellen DeGeneres Show. This is a follow up action as the program grapples with multiple “toxic workplace” accusations and the resignation of some top producers.

A human resources executive provided by “Ellen” distributor WarnerMedia has already begun work. He attended several zoom meetings, another insider said. The executive does not report to show leadership, providing anonymity to workers with grievances and a dedicated advocate.

In a Zoom call to employees, Ellen DeGeneres announced new benefits they will receive as part of their employment contracts.

A source told Variety the perks includes increased paid time off and a liberal medical leave policy – five paid days off to use at their discretion, birthdays off, and paid time for doctors appointments and family matters.

‘Toxic’ Workplace Claims – Ellen Degeneres Fires 3 Top Producers


The Ellen DeGeneres Show has fired three top producers. This is in the wake of ‘toxic’ workplace claims of on-set sexual misconduct and workplace bullying.

DeGeneres broke the news to employees in a video-conference call on Monday afternoon. There she described the recent ‘toxic’ workplace claims – allegations as ‘heartbreaking’, one source reported.    

In a message to staff, she said she was “so sorry for what this has become,” according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Executive producers Ed Glavin and Kevin Leman and co-executive producer Jonathan Norman have all been ousted from the popular talk show.

This is following accusations leveled against them by current and former staffers, according to Variety.  The departures is also said to follow investigations by journalists into claims of bullying and intimidation on set.

An attorney for Leman said his client was ‘devastated’ about being ‘scapegoated.’ He described his ousting from the show as ‘shocking’. 

‘The fact that a deeply flawed BuzzFeed article has led to the termination of an innocent man – a popular figure and a creative force behind the “Ellen” show, and a string of other projects produced with Ellen – is shocking.’ Michael Plonsker said in a statement, referring to a Buzzfeed article where allegations against the producer first surfaced.

In a story published earlier this year, several former employees told Buzzfeed News they had experienced racism while working on the show. The show has won over 60 Emmy Awards since it first aired in 2003.

So what’s wrong with the fallacy of work-life balance? You’re putting endless unnecessary pressure and guilt on yourself to achieve a “balance” that will never happen. The result is that you feel even more depleted. This is toxic as it keeps you in a vicious cycle where you can never win, which means you can’t grow. In a sense, chasing work-life balance traps you.

How do you know if you’re guilty of this?

Well, first of all, so many of us are guilty of this cycle. Work-life balance is preached from every corner of the corporate ladder. So you’re not alone.

And you know you’re experiencing toxic levels of it when, according to Dr. Appleton, you feel like nothing is ever accomplished.

You feel guilty about missing things in life or at work. To tick the box, you go through the motions of self-care because it’s “scheduled”, rather than because you’re actually engaged and mindfully practicing it.

Next time please! “You push off deadlines or work to do the ‘fun stuff’ and end up in a bigger work-hole. What is the fall out, you ignore your health and relationships to get work done, thinking ‘I have a vacation in a few months,’” Dr. Appleton expands.
